Panama Canal Locks original "Mule"
My daughter Leah with the “mule” May ‘99, when we went to the last Balboa High School Canal Zone graduation ceremony in Panamá. This “mule” was the original towing vehicle used on the locks & operated for many years. The Panama Canal Company could have taught the world about maintaining things, steam locomotives, for example, operated until 1953. I remember riding behind them as a kid in old wood side passenger cars---what fun, one hour from coast to coast on the RR. The railroad was built originally for the ‘49s during the gold rush to get ‘49s from the east coast of the U.S. to the western gold mining areas in the U.S. & Alaska.
