Puerto has one of the most scenic ocean walks and has had plenty of history when Chiriqui Banana Company was there, There is a landing strip, golf course, administrative housing and a funky ocean front town. It also has plenty of crime since the company left and the unemployment rate went up and drugs became a plague there. Things could change if they fixed up the port.
The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) has selected the company Nathan Associates to develop, within three months, a business model to develop the port.
The project will include analysis and identification of the potential to attract investors to the market.
According to Prensa.com, “… this development plan … seeks to identify viable options for creating business opportunities and alternatives for intermodal transport and logistics systems … .”
Jorge Barakat, manager of AMP stated”… that over these months, international companies and diplomatic missions have shown interest on the part of companies from their countries in participating in the development project of Puerto Armuelles and others which will soon be implemented by the AMP … “
