The National Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (Senacyt) installed the first health center equipped with solar panels, in Cartí, Guna Yala.
According to Ruben Berrocal, secretary Senacyt, this project is crucial for ecological tourism in the region, which is the source of its economy. He said the project installed last June was run on a 100% smoothly.
"One of the goals is to bring Senacyt social and technological innovations to Panamanians and use green energy such as the sun, do not destroy the environment and are part of the global trend," he said.
Berrocal stressed that the aim is that in Panama there is a greater presence of green energy, because it is easy to install, does not require much maintenance, saves a lot of money over time, and the best: "not contaminated".
The health minister, Javier Diaz, who visited the center, said it has identified health centers and shelters that can be equipped with solar panels, and for that guaranteed his support with logistics and transport.
